Start your stay with a visit to the Drowes Salmon Fishery to select your equipment and talk all things fishing to the owner, Shane. The fishing tackle shop at the fishery is open daily throughout the season from 8am. There’s plenty to purchase such as flies, spinners and bait.
The Drowes has a lot to offer the salmon and trout angler and is heralded by many as the top Irish Spring Salmon Fishery. There is also a healthy grilse run during the summer months and brown trout fishing can also be excellent from early summer onwards.
The peak of the spring salmon run occurs in March/April while the peak of the grilse run occurs in June/July. Access on the Drowes is aided by the provision of miles of wooden walkways and stiles along its bank, making fishing possible for everyone.
The salmon fishing season on the river Drowes runs from January 1st to 30th September and 15th February to 30th September for trout. The salmon fishing season on Lough Melvin commences on the 1st of February.
